Sabotage

Dear Jessica Brennan,

Of all the helpless feelings I have ever experienced in my years walking the planet, the feeling of being sabotaged has got to be right up there as the most painful.

Sabotaging someone else’s work or dream is wicked vandalism, and only the most despicable among us engage in this kind of activity.

I think sabotage finds its root in jealousy. It is calculated and sociopathic. To be this careless with another person’s thoughts, work or creation requires a coldness that is evil.

Unfortunately, in some circles, sabotage is masked as strategy. If you ever find yourself walking in one of these circles, call an Uber and zoom away.

I have known a few people who made it their dream to ruin mine, and I can tell you that being aware that someone is out to be destructive and manipulate your words and actions to make it look like you are incompetent or dishonest, is hurtful and makes you physically ill. I also will say that in the three cases that come to mind where this has happened to me in the last twenty years, all of the loathsome offenders got their comeuppance, because their egos were zeroed in on a quick fix, so they forgot one fundamental principle of this world. Life is a long game.

Pierre Choderlos is credited with creating the phrase, “Revenge is a dish best served cold” and while I’m not normally big on seeking revenge, I will say that in this case, good old Pierre was absolutely correct. In the game of life, often long, long after the saboteur has moved on to feast on another victim, there will be a moment when something appears out of the blue that will bring them down, and this blue something will pop up like magic in front of the eyes of the one that has been assaulted.

At that moment, in my experience, there is no greater satisfaction than serving up a platter of that cold dish.
